Physical Education

I am a 2006 graduate of Richlands High School where I received an English Honors award and I was the Vice President of my Senior class. Go Wildcats! I am also a 2011 graduate from East Carolina University. I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education with a Health Specialist add-on. Go Pirates!

I have experienced several practicums in surrounding areas. I have mostly observed and taught at the elementary level. I started out wanting to teach high school but when I observed my first elementary class I fell in love with the little ones. I found out immediately that I knew where I was meant to be!

I did my student teaching internship at Southwood Elementary (grades K-5) in Kinston, NC. I graduated from ECU in December of 2011 and was offered a Kindergarten Teacher Assistant position soon after. I gladly took this position because P.E. jobs were hard to find. Being in the classroom made me have an even greater appreciation for our regular education teachers. I feel like this experience helped me to become a better overall teacher.

I was so excited to interview at RPS - my HOME! I luckily got hired and started September of 2012. Richlands Primary was my number one choice and I am so happy to be teaching at here. The students are so much fun to work with and they keep me on my toes and laughing every day. I am very proud to be a Richlands Primary Cub!

I was born and raised in Richlands! I attended Richlands Elementary when it was a K-5 school, and I also attended Trexler Middle and Richlands High. At a very young age I started ballet and tap dance classes. Later on I found a love for jazz and gymnastics. I also played basketball and softball for a couple of years but my real passions lead me to cheerleading. I cheered and did gymnastics for several years. I coached cheerleading at RHS 2012-1017 and it was a great experience. I loved being a mentor and positive influence, but the best part is that I made some lasting relationships that I treasure.

On May 14, 2011, I married my high school sweetheart, Nathan Metts. We got married in Jacksonville and we honeymooned in Montego Bay, Jamaica. We dated on and off since 2002! We have two dogs - Willow, our chihuahua, and Reed, our black lab. We finally built our forever home and welcomed our first baby girl on August 5, 2016. Our sweet Brookelynn Joelie is the best thing that has ever happened to us. We are so in love!

A few fun facts about me: I absolutely love singing - especially country music! I have a love for photography; I take way too many pictures! I love capturing so many memories to be able to look back on. If I could have a second home at the beach I would jump at the chance! There is nothing more relaxing than laying on the beach and reading a good book. Although I am a small town girl, I very much enjoy traveling. NYC and Nashville are a couple of my fav spots to visit, and of course any tropical location. This 2017-2018 school year I will be starting my 6th year as a P.E. teacher, and 7th year in education. It is going to be amazing!
