Subjects Taught
Second Grade

I graduated from Eastern Michigan University in December 2000 with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education.  My concentration of math and science (physics) has served me well over the last 16 years.  I recently earned my Masters Degree from East Carolina University in December 2014 in Instructional Technology.

I'm loving technology

This will be my 17th year of teaching.  I started teaching middle school math and science in Detroit, starting in 2001.  After 3 years in Detroit, I moved to Belleville, a suburb of Detroit, teaching middle school reading and math for 2 years.  After my wife's and my jobs were cut, we moved to Jacksonville.  I taught 2 years at Southwest Elementary, then moved to help open Meadow View in 2008.  I taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades at MVE.

After 7 years at MVE, I transferred to Richlands Primary in 2015.  This will be my third year at RPS and I love the students, staff, and community!  I have been a part of supporting the Relay for Life.  I have also been a part of Science Olympiad for the last two years.  This year I will be heading up the technology department at RPS this year.  We are currently a Leader in Me school.  I have seen many terrific things out of our students since we started this program.  I have enjoyed my time at RPS.

My last 3 years in Michigan, I was the boys and girls soccer coach at the middle school level.  After moving to Jacksonville, I was offered the girls assistant coaching position at Southwest High School.  In my 6 years as assistant coach, we won the 1-A state championship in 2010 and the state runner up in 2011.  I coach my daughter's U-7 team at SWSC.

An end to the soccer season

I was born in Seoul, Korea and was adopted when I was 4 months old.  I grew up in a small farm town in Michigan and spent the first 28 years of my life there.  I met my wife while I was in college and we were married in June of 2001.  I have 2 children.  Andrew is 8 and is in 2nd grade this year.  Elizabeth is 6 and is in kindergarten this year.  We own 1 dog and 1 turtle.

Our family hit a tragic turn when my father was diagnosed with cancer in the fall of 2012.  8 months later, he was gone.  I have written a book about my father, our relationship, and our walk with God.  I owe a lot of my success to him and strive to make him proud every day.

In addition to teaching, I am the head coach of my daughter's soccer team.  I love soccer, baseball, Garfield, and penguins.  I am an avid Colorado Rockies fan and you could find me probably doing something with sports or food.
