The kids did an amazing job on their reading assessments. I am so proud of them. 

 

Kindergarten Fun Day

-Wear Tennis Shoes

-Apply sunscreen at home

(sunscreen is not allowed at school)

-Bring a water bottle with your name on it

-ColeVanellis will be selling Italian Ice.

$3 for a small and $5 for a large

Help Us Help 

-Please bring in can tabs. 

-Next week March 27 -March 31, RPS will be collecting cans of fruit and fruit cups for the CHEW program.  We are asking that each class try and collect at least 30 cans of fruit or fruit cups.


There are currently 5000 children in Onslow County that have been identified as in need of food.  The CHEW program serves 498 students in Onslow County schools and 101 are served in the Richlands area.

We will have a school-wide parade at 9am.  Come and join us.  (For costumes, students may have masks and sabers, but no toy guns or other weapons.  Also, no sabers are allowed on the school bus).

Please make sure that homework is turned in on Friday.  Any written homework should be in the yellow notebook.  Please do not include loose papers, if possible.

Homework

Students will continue to work on their check-off sheet, that they brought home on Tuesday, for homework.  Regular homework will not start this week.

I will be adding more sheets to your child’s red folder. Please do not move them around. They should stay in the spot that I put them.  You may begin practicing these concepts whenever it is convenient for your family.  These sheets should be used as a guide for practicing Kindergarten concepts with your child. 

 

Morning Routine-

Please review the morning routine with your child.

•Red folder in the red basket
•Snack in box that is inside cubbies
•Lunch Box and Book Bag separate inside of the cubby
•Come to seat and begin seat work

•If transportation needs to be changed, please put a note in your child’s red folder.
•I am currently in the process of assessing students to find out exactly what they know.  Please encourage students to always try their best when I am asking them questions.

Wednesday, August 24-Kindergarten Parent Meeting from 5:30pm-6:30pm

This meeting will give me a chance to meet all of you and share some very important information about RPS and our classroom. There will also be paperwork for you to fill out.

This meeting is for parents only. You may bring your child's school supplies if you would like. Please put your child's name on their supplies.

 

Thursday, August 25-School-wide Orientation 10:00am to 12:00pm and 3:00pm to 5:00pm

Information:

Please remember to have your child read the baggy book each night.  After reading the book, have your child retell the story from beginning to end. Then pick a question for your child to answer from the back of the reading log.  This will help your child to advance to the next level. When your child gets to a word that they can’t figure out, encourage them to use our strategies……

Look at the pictures, get your lips ready,

s-t-r-e-t-c-h it out, find the chunks, read it again, and hop over tricky words. Does it look right, does it sound right, and does it make sense. These are all strategies that we have been working on in class. Your child should be able to recite these strategies to you, as well as tell you what they mean :)  

 

If you have not returned the fall pictures or sent in money to purchase them, you will not receive the spring pictures that were just taken. If you are not sure if you returned them or purchased them, just ask and I will let you know.

Friday, February 5th.

Is the 100th day of school. If you and your child would like to decorate a shirt with 100 of something on the shirt and wear it on the 100th day of school you may.  I have included some examples. I can’t wait to see the creative things you all come up with.

 

Info:

Reading assessments are currently in progress! Please continue to read the bag books nightly.  Also have your child retell the story to you from beginning to end.  This will help tremendously on their assessment.  Practicing sight words will also help enhance reading scores. A February behavior calendar and homework calendar will be sent home next week.

 

 

Please send in an updated change of clothes to keep in your child’s cubby.  A lot of the bags have summer clothing in them. I will send home the clothes here, when a new bag is sent in.

January 4-8  

On January 4th

I will be updating homework notebooks with new letters or sight words. 

A new homework calendar, behavior calendar, and Pizza Hut reading paper will be sent home as well.

I also wanted to thank you all for your donations and for volunteering your time for our Christmas Rotations. The kids have all said they had a wonderful time and it would not be possible without your help. Thanks for all that you do. 

I hope you all have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
